Today's 'Soap Opera'...

November 18, 2016

I love this time of the year when I get to put the usual soap designs aside and create something new for our Limited Edition Christmas Collections...it's fun and exciting right?!

Well...there are days where I feel like I've skipped merrily through a lovely field of flowers and discovered a beautiful rainbow at journey's end...and then there are days like today where I've plunged headlong into a mine field and narrowly avoided a nuclear disaster!

A simple soap was planned...but something just short of a miracle was performed...considering the soap batter set up on me instantaneously, then after whipping it into submission with an egg whisk and hopefully getting a decent swirl into it, I managed to get it into the mould and ready for the topping.

Phew! Easy peasy from here right?!

Sure would have been if I didn't lose the piping nozzle out of a full bag of soap not just once but twice!

And my reward for my patience and perseverance? A lovely burn to the face from the raw soap that managed to be inadvertently flicked there without my knowledge during my soaping frenzy!

Gotta love good soaping days!  ;)

Stacking Charm Bracelets

September 10, 2016

Beading is just one of many creative processes I love to indulge in, however it seems I always put it on the back-burner; I tend to work harder at restocking existing product lines rather than taking the time to really sit and work on creating new things!

However, I spent some quality time with my beads recently and pumped out a few new items in the way of stacking charm bracelets.  Once I get started there's no stopping me!

These new elasticised charm bracelets are created using semi-precious ...

About Me!

January 5, 2015

I think I was always destined to be a creator.  With my mother and grandmother both being positive influences, it was not difficult to develop a love of crafting from a very young age.

As a child my mother particularly spent a great deal of time teaching me to knit and crochet, and in my teenage years, she persevered with teaching me to sew.  As a dressmaker who had once had her own form of small business creating costumes, mum was well qualified to share her skills in assisting me to ...

A Special Soap for a Special Place...

February 22, 2014

Not every soap we create has a story, but this one does...

As a favourite holiday destination, the beautiful Blacks Beach in Mackay, Queeensland, Australia provides the perfect subject for a true artisan soap, one which has become a PKM Creations top three best seller.

Our Blue Pacific premium artisan soap was inspired by the wonderful view from the beachfront grounds at Comfort Resort Blue Pacific and by the feeling of pure enjoyment and relaxation one has when taking in such a view.

The Goodness of Goats Milk & Oatmeal

September 8, 2013

You may have heard that many people choose to only use soap that has been made from goats milk.  What is the reason for this?  Goats milk soaps are believed to be highly beneficial for people with sensitive skin, that is, they suffer from skin irritations such as eczema or psoriasis.

Goats milk contains alpha hydroxy acids, vitamins and minerals.  Alpha hydroxy acids such as lactic acid remove dead skin cells leaving new cells on the skin's surface that are smoother and younger looking.  These...

The Benefits of Handmade Soap

July 7, 2013

Have you ever wondered what all the hype is about when it comes to handmade soap?  Like me, you've probably at some time had reason to consider purchasing a bar of handmade soap and thought "What's so special about it?  Why should I buy that when I can get the same thing so much cheaper at the supermarket?  Soap is just soap, right?"  Wrong!  While a bar of handmade soap is often more expensive than commercially-produced soap, handcrafted soap offers so much more in terms of benefits to one...

Soapmaking, An Ancient Tradition

June 27, 2013

I touched briefly on the very early history of soapmaking in my previous post to give you a foundation for viewing modern techniques associated with an ancient tradition.  However I thought it was worth exploring this a little further. In this post you will see that with the progression of time has come many changes in tradition and technique.

As I mentioned previously, soapmaking began in its crudest form in the time of the Babylonians, around 2800 BC.  References have been found on ...

Making Soap for the Masses

June 9, 2013

While the making of soap is an ancient tradition, it has changed somewhat over the centuries both in the way it is produced and in its very nature.  The earliest records of soapmaking date back to the Babylonians.

Traditionally soap has always been used for cleaning, whether it be oneself or things such as fabrics or domestic utensils.

It is believed the term soap gets its name from 'Mount Sapo', the supposed sacrificial site used by the Ancient Romans.  'Sapo' is the Latin term for soap ...
